About Us





Artist, Kathy Badrak has been creating fine art gourds since 2009.  A  Basket Weaver and a former Stained Glass artist, Badrak brings to her Gourd Art the natural fibers and weaving techniques from her basketry and the vibrant colors and lines from her stained glass work.

Kathy is a member of the Lompoc Valley Art Association, the Artist Guild of Santa Ynez Valley, California Gourd Society and the American Gourd Society. Her work has been sold through art galleries, commission work and shows in California. She has won numerous awards in juried shows and has been the featured artist in two shows for the Cypress Gallery. She is an artist participant at “A Crimson Holiday”, an artist co-op located in Santa Barbara. Kathy also teaches basketry and gourd classes with her partner in the Lompoc area.







                                    Karen Osland is a Naturalist.  She has
taught classes on basketry and on the ethnobotany of native California plants for 25 years.  She leads interpretative hikes emphasizing how the California Indians managed their environment.  She conducts training classes for various Docent organizations on Chumash and Gabrielino Ethnobotany.  She does outreach programs for 3rd to 5th graders on cultural uses of California native plants.

She is also a Docent at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and La Purisima Mission and is an active member of the Central Coast Basket weavers.  She was employed at Vandenberg Air Force Base as an Environmental Planner for sixteen years.

Kathy and Karen founded Lavenpine Consulting, a small woman owned business to further their goals of connecting people to their environments.
